Message from the Executive Director
Managed Care Workshop for Leaders Jan. 28
Amie Miller, PsyD., Executive Director
We’re kicking off the new year with an ambitious list of projects intended to help you address the most pressing changes in public behavioral health. First up will be a one-day, in-person workshop on navigating the changing managed care landscape, co-sponsored with the County Behavioral Health Directors Association (CBHDA).
I hope you’ll plan to join us Jan. 28 in Sacramento — and bring your QI, SUD and clinical leaders, and other key staff who you think will benefit from a deeper understanding of counties’ obligations as specialty behavioral health plans.
In an environment that is constantly shifting beneath our feet, it can be difficult to know what’s most important and where to place your focus and resources. Our goal for this workshop is to give you the context and expertly guided analysis necessary for you to make the best decisions for your county’s managed care responsibilities.
We’re lining up experts from CalMHSA, CBHDA and other organizations around the state to tackle topics in the most relevant way possible. Our day of learning includes:
- Making the most of the current landscape: Where we are and where we’re headed
- The history and context of managed care in Medi-Cal: The county role, understanding the Medi-Cal population, emergence of managed care organizations in Medi-Cal
- Viewing your county’s data through the DHCS lens: County-specific data sheets with prevalence and population data, and how DHCS sees you
- Critical foundations and standards: Managing the network, playing to your strengths, core documents and responsibilities
- Designing your access system under Prop. 1: Screening and transition tools, implementation
- Navigating other managed care plans: Holding managed care and commercial plans accountable, calculating risk
The day will be packed with discovering, sharing and collaborating on a critical component of your work.
Hope to see you there.
