Clinical Supervision
CalMHSA’s work to address the critical shortages public mental health system workforce include understanding critical workforce needs and identifying pipelines and programs to recruit and prepare students from underrepresented regions and backgrounds. To achieve those goals, CalMHSA leverages contract negotiations with educational institutions and programs, collaborates with educational institutions to ensure curriculum is geared toward behavioral health, and creates designated pathways for county behavioral health staff.
Remote Clinical Supervision for Licensure
The California Healthcare Foundation is providing CalMHSA with funding for a three-year program evaluation and remote supervisor training for counties that have pre-licensed staff but lack access to clinical supervisors. The program provides a HIPAA-compliant platform for virtual clinical supervision with the only remote supervision provider offering to-scale remote supervision services in California.
Virtual clinical supervision through a HIPAA-compliant platform to fill a gap for counties that have pre-licensed staff but do not have access to enough clinical supervisors:
- Counties purchase remote individual supervision hours for pre-licensed staff
- All supervisors in the program will complete a training to orient them to the Medi-Cal core client populations within county behavioral health
- Counties also have the option to purchase Triad supervision (two associates, one supervisor)
- Group supervision (three to eight associates, one supervisor)
