Public Awareness

Take Action for Mental Health

Take Action for Mental Health is a long-term statewide campaign that promotes awareness with the ultimate goals of reducing stigma and preventing suicide. To reach the broadest possible audience, CalMHSA deploys the campaign using social media and digital marketing tools, informed by stakeholder forums, as well as culturally responsive resources, a social influencer program, and in-depth assistance for counties.

Key components of the Take Action also include:

  • Tools and Toolkits: Annual Suicide Prevention Week and May is Mental Health Month toolkits with sample social media posts and calendars, green ribbons, web banners, pocket cards and many other resources
  • Training: Ongoing training via county-specific, individualized sessions and a skills-building webinar series based on emerging trends in community-based behavioral health
  • Youth Video: The Directing Change initiative engages youth across California by encouraging them to create 60-second films that address suicide prevention and/or mental health wellness.
