BHQIP Resources
for Counties
The Department of Health Care Services’ Behavioral Health Quality Improvement Program (BHQIP) is structured as an incentive program to support implementation of the California Advancing & Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) initiative. BHQIP allows counties to earn incentive payments by achieving certain CalAIM milestones.
To help counties receive their incentive payments, CalMHSA provides technical assistance and subject matter expertise in the areas of payment reform, documentation redesign, policy implementation and data exchange. This includes:
- Data support and analysis for counties to make informed decisions around performance improvement projects (PIPs) and stakeholder engagement
- Webinars, office hours and county consultations
- Tracking key performance indicators to evaluate impact and complete an equity analysis
- Troubleshooting barriers
- Reviewing and providing feedback on draft county PIP submissions to DHCS
