5150 Training
CalMHSA, in collaboration with Sutter Health, offers counties a comprehensive training on California involuntary holds titled “Law and Ethics: Involuntary Treatment and the 5150 Process.” This program supports county staff who work in multiple jurisdictions with a single training that is updated monthly to reflect the changing landscape.
The training is accessible in two formats:
- Live monthly sessions: A three-hour live training session conducted by Garrett Law LLP.
The live training sessions will be conducted on the following dates from 1:00 PM to 4:15 PM:

- Asynchronous training: The asynchronous sessions will be accessible for 28 days following each live training session.
This course meets the qualifications for 3.0 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. The California Mental Health Services Authority is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
